IDF to return to Shdema 0

The Brigade Commander to the Committee for Jewish Shdema:
“In about a week the army will return to Shdema to establish an outpost”

Shaul Goldstein: “This is a sign that progress is being made. Shdema will yet be a community”

The Committee for a Jewish Shdema: “We will continue to conduct activity at the site”

Two days ago, on Friday, we traveled from Har Homa to Shdema in a car convoy of more than a hundred people, in dozens of vehicles bedecked with Israeli flags, in the pre-Tu bi-Shevat event with the slogan: Connecting Jerusalem to Gush Etzion - Har Homa to Shdema.

A moving morning was held at Shdema, beginning with greetings by the head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, Shaul Goldstein. Goldstein related to the statement by the brigade commander, who announced the establishment of a military outpost at Shdema in the coming week or two, and said: “This is good news. The establishment of a military outpost at Shdema is a sign that, with God’s help, Shdema will become a flourishing community, and this is due to the determined and persevering activity of the Committee for a Jewish Shdema. The Committee for a Jewish Shdema succeeded in its mission, and now can keep going forward, and become the ‘Committee for Jewish Jenin’ or for Jewish Shechem.”

Then Herzl Yehekzel, chairman of the Har Homa neighborhood administration, spoke and mentioned the importance of the linkage between Har Homa and Shdema and the Jewish continuity between them, in order to prevent the spread of the Arab construction that threatens to choke Har Homa: “This [the Jewish continuity] could become reality, just as Har Homa expanded beyond expectations and plans.”

Avraham Azoulay, the editor of the Le Petit Hebdo weekly, a Har Homa resident, spoke in the name of the immigrants from France of the importance of the struggle for a Jewish Shdema.

The Committee for a Jewish Shdema and Women in Green will continue to conduct activity in the Eretz Israel culture center at Shdema. In the meantime, two goals have been attained: (1) the area has not been handed over to the Arabs; (2) there is a Jewish presence.

A special holiday atmosphere reigned at Shdema. Eretz Israel and Carlebach songs - with Adam Tzahi and Yoni Sharon, accompanied by Eli Gilboa and his accordion - are always heartwarming. The event concluded with joyous dancing.

This Friday Prof. Hillel Weiss will lecture on “The First Furrow in the Literature of the First Aliyah.”

Tonite in Alon Shvut 0

message forwarded by supporters of Rabbi Shapiro and Jews who are outraged at the persecution by the “justice system” of national Jews–please forward and post on all Gush Etzion lists:

Tonite at 10:00pm- Demonstration in Alon Shvut in front of Judge Alexander Ron’s house:

The Rosh Yeshiva of Of the Od Yossef Hai Yeshiva, Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, was arrested today after the investigation of a few students by the Shabak was not advancing. The Rabbi arrived for the investigation in the afternoon and at the end of the interrogation he was told that he is arrested.

An urgent appeal was filed in which the court and the judge on duty- Alexander Ron, resident of Alon Shvut, was asked to discuss the issue of rabbi Shapiro already tonight, and this in order to prevent a situation in which a Rosh Yeshiva, father of 11 children, would have to stay in jail overnight. Such appeals are common in such cases.

Judge Ron, who had already come home, refused to discuss the case and said that only tomorrow morning a date for the discussion of the case will be set- eventhough this meant that the Rabbi would have to stay in jail overnight.

Without even discussing the issue of insulting the honor of a Rosh Yeshiva, one has to ask: is the afternoon nap of judge Ron more important than the night sleep of Rabbi Shapira?

Dear friends,

Today, Reuven Pedatzur, one of the most respected journalists of Haaretz, published a remarkable article on the al Dura blood-libel:

Mohammed al-Dura – Israel’s greatest PR failure
To read this article in Hebrew, please click here.

Don’t hesitate to comment on this article on the Haaretz website.

As this article explicitly states, the Israeli institutions responsible for maintaining positive PR – the IDF and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in particular – failed to correct the calumny and other long-term damages caused by the al Dura hoax.
It is also important to remember that last July, Charles Enderlin, the French-Israeli journalist responsible for the al Dura hoax, received the French Legion of Honor from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, YOU can contribute to the redemption of Israel’s reputation by demanding for the case to be solved once and for all by contacting the Israeli ministry of Foreign Affairs (02-530 31 11) and asking for the spokesperson’s office.
You can also write to sar@mfa.gov.il and pniot@mfa.gov.il and mankal@mfa.gov.il
Also, please contact the French embassy in Israel by phone (03 520 83 00) and by email diplomatie@ambafrance-il.org to express your disappointment and your reprobation.

This is the first time I have called you to action.
If we are able to overwhelm these French and Israeli offices with phone calls and emails, things might change soon.

Last but not least, if you have friends in London and would like to spread awareness of the al Dura blood-libel, please inform them that by kind invitation of Baroness Cox, the Henry Jackson Society has invited me to present my evidence of the al Dura hoax on Wednesday 27th, January 2010 at the House of Lords.
If any of your friends would like to attend to this event, please ask them to write me directly (philippe@karsenty.fr) and I’ll send them the details.

I count on you TO ACT and SPREAD this message to the greatest of your abilities.

Thank you.

Shdema activists distribute Arabic flyers 0

Shdema Activists Distributed Dozens of Flyers in Arabic, with Verses from the Quran, in the Illegal Compound that the Arabs Built at Shdema

After anarchists spray painted the Shdema camp last week with verses from the Bible about “love and fraternity,” yesterday, Friday, the eve of the Sabbath of parshat Bo, January 22, 2010, the activists for a Jewish Shdema and Women in Green prepared flyers in Arabic with verses from the Quran that the Land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel. The verses were taken from Sura 5, verses 20-21, Sura 7, verses 136-137, and Sura 17, verses 103-104.

Following the fascinating lecture by Dr. Haggai Ben-Artzi on the meaning of Tu bi-Shvat in the literature of the Kabbalists, the activists went down to the illegal compound that the Arabs built at Shdema with the assistance of USAID funds and distributed the flyers. In addition, flyers were hung on the concrete barriers at the entrance to the road leading to Shdema.

At the same time, the Shdema Youth continued to clean up the damage caused last week by the anarchists, and they repainted all the walls.

Next week: a special event in honor of Tu bi-Shvat - Har Homa with Shdema!

On Friday, January 29, 2010, the eve of Tu bi-Shvat, there will be a solidarity journey from Har Homa to Shdema, with plantings at Shdema.

Israel in Haiti 0

————————————————————————–

Dear Friends,

The following letter by David Yehezkel says it all. Below the letter we include the link to the video clip about Israel’s amazing field hospital in Haiti.

Thank you Helen Freedman from AFSI for forwarding the information.

With love for Israel,

Nadia Matar
—————

ISRAEL’S DISPROPORTIONAL RESPONSE
by David Yehezkel

Many countries and world leaders have accused Israel of responding disproportionately to aggression from Hizballah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. However, it is time that the world press and media speak of another disproportionate response from Israel.

The terrible disastrous earthquake in Haiti has generated responses from many nations. The US has sent supplies and personnel, Britain sent 64 firemen and 8 volunteers, France sent troops for Search and Rescue. Many large and wealthy nations of the world sent money. The Arab and Moslem world nothing.

Israel, a nation of 7.5 million people has sent a team of 220 people that include Medical personnel and will establish the largest field hospital in Haiti, treating up to 500 people a day, an experienced Search and Rescue team and medical supplies. As in previous earthquake disasters, such as in Gujarat India in 2001 and in Turkey, in the bombings in Kenya, Israel has been one of the most generous givers of aid and assistance

Turkey seems to have forgotten this help as its extreme Moslem Government is cozying up to Iran.

Judge Goldstone, where are you now? Eating your heart out and hanging your head down in shame I hope.

The favorite occupation in the UN is Israel bashing. More resolutions have been passed condemning Israel than all the so called democratic nations such as Sudan, China, Russia and others for their crimes against their minorities.

I think it is time that the world should know about Israel’s disproportionate response.

FROM AFSI:
Please view this video from CNN. The reporter discovers, to her amazement, that Israel responded to the earthquake devastation in Haiti from “the other side of the world” with the most advanced field hospital installation possible. She marvels that the U.S., so much closer to Haiti, hasn’t done the same. Viewing this video will make you very proud of Israel’s accomplishments.

The world needs to learn a great lesson from Israel!
